Shane Soutar
Team Principal
Shane Soutar has a wealth of motorsport knowledge that he brings to the team. Born in Geelong, Shane was quickly roped into the world of motorsport through his stepfather, Alfred Dickeson, who himself was an avid motorcycle and sidecar racer. From humble beginnings out at Avalon Speedway, Shane quickly rose through the ranks of the National Speedway Sidecar scene, eventually winning the Australian Championship at Murray Bridge in 1990. What made this feat even more impressive was the fact that Shane achieved victory on a sidecar frame that both he and Alf built together from scratch under the “Soutar Racing Frames” banner.
After achieving the ultimate speedway sidecar prize in Australia, Shane turned his attention to road racing sidecars. He quickly found his way to the front on asphalt, winning 2 National Championships in the early 90’s before taking on the World Sidecar Championship in 1996. A horrific accident at Mugello that same year almost ended Shane’s career. After spending 1997 recovering from extensive injuries, Shane returned to the World Sidecar Championship in 1998, and would go on to finish in 5th place overall in the 1999 season before a budget shortfall meant he had to return home to Australia. Shane went on to win a further 3 Australian Sidecar titles, before shifting his focus towards the car racing side of Team Soutar Motorsport.
